Welcome to Viewcliff resort Kohtao.
Koh Tao is a small island, only 21 square kilometers, located in the Gulf of Thailand approximately 45Km north of Koh Phangan and 70 Km east of the coastline. Originally it was a prison island until all prisoners were given a royal pardon.
Shortly after, it was settled by 2 brothers from Koh Phangan who brought their families to the island where they farmed the land and fished the waters for a living. In the late 70's the island was discovered by backpackers and soon became renowned as an island paradise.
As Koh Tao's reputation for natural beauty and particularly it's marine life and coral reefs grew, it has become one of the major dive sites in Thailand. With it's 11 beaches and 8 km's of coral reef it's a great location for relaxation and adventure.
Even though the island has developed to cater for the increased number of visitors, a simple boat trip around the island will show you the peace and tranquility that can still be found on the island.
Getting to Koh Tao is easier than you might think, though, being a small island with no airport it does mean a boat trip. Don't worry there are plenty of them!
If you are comming from the north of Thailand (most people arrive in Bangkok) you need to get to Chumphon!
